Discovering art beyond the Locanda

As for our valleys, we suggest the Museo Ladino in Sen Jan di Fassa and the Museo di Arte contemporanea in Cavalese. The latter houses both solo and collective temporary exhibitions over the whole year. Another must-see in Cavalese is the Palazzo della Magnifica Comunità, where, besides learning the history of a thousand years old institution, you will be able to appreciate several canvases by probably the only school of painting in Trentino, the Fiemme school.

Bolzano is 45 minutes away from Canazei. After strolling in its lovely town centre or visiting the Museo Archeologico dell’Alto Adige, renowned for the famous mummy of Ötzi, you can wander in the halls of the Museion, the museum of modern and contemporary art, and then reach the MMM Messner Mountain Museum Firmian, the extraordinary museum project of the mountaineer Reinhold Messner.

Trento offers many cultural and leisure opportunities too: the town centre with its Renaissance frescoes, the majestic cathedral and the Museo Diocesano Tridentino, housing the artistic heritage of the Diocese of Trentino. Don’t miss the MUSE, the big science museum designed by Renzo Piano, as well as the Castello del Buonconsiglio, city landmark that often houses important exhibitions.

“Paris is well worth a mass”, and Rovereto is definitely worth the journey, although it’s one hour and a half away from Canazei. You could take advantage of a rainy day, or make a stop while you’re on your way to Val di Fassa to admire the exhibitions of Mart, the museum of modern and contemporary art, with its elegant dome designed by the top-notch architect Mario Botta. Another must-see is the Casa d’Arte Futurista Depero, the museum/laboratory of the futurist artist to whom a whole room is dedicated in our Art Hotel.

Another of our illustrious guests is Giovanni Segantini, several of whose works are hosted in the homonymous Civic Gallery housed in the 17th-century Palazzo Panni in Arco, the artist's birthplace. A trip to the lake also offers the opportunity to visit the MAG with its picture gallery.

You can as well combine art with a fine sunny day, walking among the contemporary art installations made with natural materials in RespirArt, one of the world’s highest Art Parks, at an altitude of more than 2000 m, over Pampeago in Val di Fiemme.
